Bandai Namco has shared a new 11-minute trailer for One Piece Odyssey, the upcoming JRPG. The new trailer revisits gameplay systems that were shown off previously, like Scramble Battles, Cooking, dungeon crawling, and more. In addition, we also looked at the game’s UI, which was never shown before, and seems to be going in a stylistic art direction.
One Piece Odyssey is an upcoming adventure RPG based on the best-selling manga. The game follows the infamous Strawhat Pirates as they become stranded on the Isle of Memories. To escape the island, they must revisit past events and regain their lost powers. The game is divided into three parts: Dramatic Story, Combat, and Adventure.
The game’s Battle System is best defined as taking the “rock paper scissors” approach. This means that in the game, Strenght will beat Speed, and Speed will beat Technique, while Technique will beat Strenght. Each member of the game’s party will have different stats, and there’s a chance of dramatic scenes occurring during gameplay. These dramatic scenes will give players bonus objectives, which provide more EXP if you complete them. Furthermore, you can also switch team members during combat and exploration.
One aspect of combat is Scramble Area Battles, which involve several locations where all combatants will be randomly assigned, requiring players to understand and experiment with the game’s mechanics to win. Other mechanics can contextually affect party members, such as Sanji being unable to attack if surrounded by women.
The game will feature new characters and awesome designs by Eiichiro Oda. For this game, he created two unique characters for Adio and Lim. Oda, including a dry penguin and a Leviathan, created several new monsters. Motoi Sakuraba, known for the Dark Souls and Tales series, is involved in the music.
One Piece Odyssey will launch on January 13th, 2023, for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
