Fntastic is having a tough time with its upcoming title, The Day Before, which was initially supposed to release in March 2023. The game will now face another 8-month delay along with its gameplay footage because of the trademark issue on its name.
According to a recent tweet by Fntastic the title “The Day Before” was already owned by a private individual, and upon request of this individual, The Day Before’s game page was removed by Steam. Fntastic further stated that at the time when the game was announced in January 2021, The Day Before game trademark was available, but the mentioned individual went ahead of them to register the game trademark.
Fntastic also shared the link about the filled application in the Trademark office records, which shows the owner of the title The Day Before, Sun Jae Lee. According to the source, Sun Jae Lee is from South Korea and currently living in Seoul. Fntastic was unaware of this claim until they received a complaint and request for contact from Sun Jae Lee on January 19. A Raw Gameplay Footage was also set to reveal later this month, but it is also delayed. Fntastic confirms they will indeed release the footage as soon as possible after consulting with the lawyers.
Fntastic had to make this difficult choice to delay the game till November 10. Even after this incident, developers promised fans that they will focus 100% on the game and deliver the best game possible.
