The latest entries in Nintendo’s long-running franchise, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, are now released on Nintendo Switch, exciting fans worldwide. Nintendo has released a short launch trailer to celebrate the occasion.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are the newest entries in GameFreak’s flagship franchise, with the last entry being Legends: Arceus, which was released earlier this year. Set in the Paldea region, players can freely adventure through three grand stories and challenge gyms in any order to reach the champion rank. They can see the wide open world at their own pace and choose Sprigatito, Fuecoco, or Quaxly as their first Pokémon. The difference between the two versions is mainly cosmetic, meaning even if two players have different versions, they can also play co-op with up to three other players and trade wirelessly to complete their Pokédex.
Needlessly to say, the latest entry in the franchise was hyped as Nintendo even released special edition models of the Nintendo Switch OLED themed around these games. Despite being released so soon after the last game in the franchise, pre-order data also reveals that the game has already topped the charts, even going as far as becoming the most pre-ordered entry in the franchise’s history. Despite this, it still doesn’t have the best launch in the Nintendo Switch’s history, with that record being held by Splatoon 3.
Although it’s not all good news for fans, various reviews before the game’s launch revealed that it was plagued with performance issues and bugs. These issues are mainly visual, such as cutting through the world and invisible battles. However, performance is also affected by issues such as rough frame rates and occasional crashes. We can expect these problems to be fixed over time, and Nintendo has released patch 1.0.1 to fix some of these issues on launch.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are out now for the Nintendo Switch.
