Like many others, Metal Hellsinger is facing an uncertain future because of Unity’s plan to impose a “Unity runtime fee.” This Doom-style rhythmic FPS game is added to the list of games that Unity might lose in the near future.

Unity has long been a dominant force in the gaming engine industry since most of the successful games like Hollow Knight, Cities Skylines, Genshin Impact, Among Us, Kerbal Space Program, and Cuphead are supported by it. But, a significant shift will occur after January 1st, 2024, when the Unity Runtime Fee is enacted. This fee demands a specified fee from the developers for every installation. The developers are only subject to paying the price when they have met specific revenue and installation thresholds that are mentioned below:

  • Unity Personal and Unity Plus member: $200,000 in revenue in the past 12 months and 200,000 lifetime game installs.
  • Unity Pro and Unity Enterprise: A revenue of at least $1,000,000 and 1,000,000 lifetime game installs.

David Goldfarb, the founder of The Outsiders, has directed fans and expressed his thoughts to get the game while you still can. When asked whether the game would be pulled from sale, he replied, “We will see.”

Dear potential @MetalHellsinger players, remember we are a Unity game, which means get it while you fuckin can

Other developers have also expressed concerns about shifting the game to another engine. These include Mega Crit, the creator of Slay the Spire, who has been in business with Unity for more than two years for creating their next game. They said that they would discard their plan for migration if Unity reverts this change and puts Terms of Service Protection in effect for future uncertainty from the company. Massive Monster, who has developed the game Cult of the Lamb, is also among the companies against the Runtime Fee Policy.

Considering this uncertain news, Metal HelHellsinger’svelopers have put the game on a 50% discount on Steam that is available till September 25th. Dream of the Beast and the Essential Hits DLC packs are also offered at a massive 25% off.

Only time will decide what the future holds for these games and these games, so if you want a taste of the game Metal Hellsinger, this is the time.
