Versus Evil has just announced its latest title, Lil’ Guardsman. The game, created by Hilltop Studios, is a deduction adventure narrative puzzle inspired by the classic point-and-click genre that will be released on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam. The release date has yet to be specified, but it is set to launch sometime later this year.
The official trailer teases the game’s comedic sensibility, similar to that of Monkey Island and other Lucasarts adventure classics from the 1990s, with the lore set in a high fantasy world, with players taking on the role of Lil to narrate the game story.
Lil is a twelve-year-old girl who frequently fills in for her father. Her father is the head castle guardsman, so covering up for him as the head of the castle guardsman is no kid’s play, but Lil has it all covered.
Lil, filling her father’s feet, will decide the city’s fate as it is her controlling who enters the castle gate. While out on the watch, she must question many of those attempting to enter the city. She will have goblins, humans, cyclopes, elves, and other bizarre characters questioned at the city gates.
It is up to her to use her deduction skills to determine whom to admit or deny based on how they respond to her questions and the tools she has trusted. She will not only share her father’s burdens but also have equal access to his powers. It’s all in her hands whether she sends visitors to jail, accidentally zaps them to smithereens, or lets them go.
Isn’t it too good to be true? She will, however, have to witness the Sprawl and its fantastical and eccentric inhabitants through a royal wedding to one of two kingdoms vying for an alliance. Eventually, it will be followed by a siege by whomever Lil has enraged in the process.
To put things right, Lil must interrogate over hundred characters in just the right way to receive a perfect score. Furthermore, she can spend her earned gold to upgrade her guardsman toolkit and put it to the best of use.
In addition, Lil will also have her trusty Chronometer3000 at her disposal. She can use it to travel back in time and record a new high score. However, doing so risks breaking space and time, so she must proceed with caution. That is all there is to know about the game. If you fancy Lil, Lil’ Guardsman is definitely worth a shot.
