While advancing through the game Blasphemous 2, you will encounter some statue figures called Altarpieces. These Altarpieces will provide the Penitent One with different boosts upon equipping. The Altarpieces are divided into five different categories. Pairing them up will create Resonances that provide you with additional perks, making your gameplay much more fun than it already was.
The Resonance System in the game is unbeknownst to many because of the failure of the game to introduce it properly when you first get the Altarpieces, and it is not even brought up later. To help you understand the Resonance System, this guide will cover everything you need to know.
What Are the Categories of Altarpieces?
The Altarpieces in the game are split into five categories, each denoted by its symbol. The categories are mentioned below:
Blue Candle
Eight statues fall in this category and provide perks and buffs to Veredicto.
Green Sword
This category contains five statues that provide perks and buffs to Sarmiento and Centella.
Red Skull
Eight statues whose benefits are focused on providing perks and buffs to Ruego Al Alba fall into this category.
Purple Feather
This category has nine statues that provide benefits and buffs to deal more elemental damage.
Gray Orb
Five statues fall under this category that provide Guilt-related benefits.
How Do You Activate Resonances?
Resonance is activated by placing two Altarpieces next to each other on the altar. To do so, head to the “Altarpiece of Favours” tab to find four pairs of altars. If you have just started the game, you’ll only have one team unlocked, and the other three can be opened by purchasing them from the master sculptor, Montanes, located in the City of the Blessed Name.
Place the Altarpieces in the unlocked slot to activate a resonance. Once you do, a symbol between them will appear, indicating that the resonance is now active. The boost you will get depends upon the type of Altarpieces you have placed in the slot.
What Are the Different Types of Resonances?
Blasphemous 2 has several Resonances that are divided into two categories.
Generic Resonances
The generic Resonances are harnessed when you pair up two Altarpieces of the same category. The activation is denoted by the symbol of that category appearing in the center. All of the possible Generic Resonances are mentioned below:
- Gregel’s Favour: Use any two Altarpieces from the Candle category to cast this resonance, which will award you increased Veredicto’s strength to deal more damage.
- Lebeche’s Favour: Cast by pairing up any two Altarpieces from the Sword category, increasing Sarmiento and Centella’s ability to deal more damage.
- Jaloque’s Favour: Using two Altarpieces pieces from the Skull category will increase Ruego Al Alba’s strength.
- Cierzo’s Favour: Pair two Altarpieces from the Feather category to increase the damage dealt by any elemental attack.
Note: Unlike every other category of Altarpieces, the Gray Orb Category does not have any resonances.
Unique Resonances
When you pair specific Altarpieces, you can activate a unique resonance. A fire symbol appears between the Altarpieces when the resonance is activated, indicating that it is unique. All of the 20 resonances are mentioned below:
- Alchemical Time: If you pair “The Ecstatic Novice” and “Nacimiento,” it will have the effect that time will stop for a short time once you drink the Bile Flask.
- Briar and Thorn: Pairings “The Alchemist” and “The Pillager” will summon a barrier whenever you dodge, which will damage and pierce the enemies.
- Burning Faith: The Altarpieces “The Selfless Father” and “The Thurifer” will minimize the Fervour consumption to zero when Veredicto is in active state.
- Contagion: The two Altarpieces, “The Alchemist” and “The Partisan,” will damage the enemy from the Miasma whirlpool created upon blocking an attack.
- Deflagration: When you pair “The Anointed One” and “The Purified One” altarpieces, the Veredicto’s hit will create fire bursts.
- Endless Wrath: This resonance requires “The Demented One” and “The Partisan” and will renew the Ruego Al Alba’s Blood Pact’s duration upon killing an enemy if it was previously active.
- Galvanic Plead: Pairing “The Punished One” and “The Tempest” will have the effect that activating the Blood Pact will charge Ruego Al Alba’s blade with lightning.
- Liquid Faith: The two Altarpieces, “Nacimiento” and “The Scribe,” will recover Fervour if you drink a Bile Flask.
- Orison Apocrypha: Combining the two Altarpieces, “The Flagellant” and “The Woman of the Stolen Face,” will change specific prayers that must never be uttered again. These prayers include Galera of the Living Briar and Serrana of the Kindled Hearth.
- Purging Bronze: Combining “The Anointed One” and “The Confessor” will inflame Veredicto with the flame that is born from guilt, which will increase the fire damage based on accumulated guilt.
- Purging Silver: Pairing “The Confessor” and “The Veteran One” will increase the damage dealt by Sarmiento & Centella’s lightning bolts based on the accumulated guilt.
- Purging Steel: Two Altarpieces, “The Confessor” and “The Punished One,” combined will increase the damage dealt by Ruego Al Alba’s Mystical Blood Pact attacks based upon the accumulated guilt.
- Rosary of Torment: Combining “The Guide” and “The Punished One” will allow you to deal mystical damage to the opponent from Ruego Al Alba’s Reaper Rosary attack.
- Second Wind: Casting a resonance with “Nacimiento” and “The Pilgrim” will allow you to recover all Verdadera Destreza markers upon drinking a Bile Flask.
- Slaughter: A resonance made from pairing up “The Ecstatic Novice” and “Viridiana” will allow you to stop the time for a while upon the execution of an enemy.
- Spellblade: The resonance made by combining “The Guide” and “The Veteran One” will allow Sarmiento and Centella’s blades to deal mystical damage. The second benefit you will get is that Sacred Lunge will cast a shadow that will also strike to deal high amounts of damage.
- Storm Steps: Combining “The Pillager” and “The Tempest” to form a resonance will create lightning bolts that will deal massive damage when you dodge an attack.
- Stormrage: Pairing the two Altarpieces, “The Tempest” and “The Veteran One,” will create chain lightning bolts when Sarmiento & Centella attack.
- Thorned Retort: Resonance made with “The Alchemist” and “Trifón” will create a barrier of thorns around the Penitent One, inflicting miasma damage.
- Venomous Resin: A Resonance made with “The Alchemist” and “The Anointed One” will replace the Veredicto’s ember with toxic incense, creating a cloud of miasma to deal damage.
