As part of developer Remedy’s latest earnings briefing, the game studio confirmed that one of its most anticipated upcoming games, Alan Wake 2, remains on track for a 2023 release. The developer also provided development updates on its four other games, including the multiple sequels in development to Control.
After the overwhelming success of its predecessor ten years ago, Alan Wake 2 is highly anticipated by lovers of the survival horror genre. It won’t be 2023’s only survival horror game, as Resident Evil 4 Remake is releasing in March of the same year. The little-revealed footage makes it clear that the developers are going into this entry with a different vision from the first one. The game is more of an immersion into the survival horror aspect than the previous entry.
The financial report was very optimistic about the current status of the game and stated the following:
There is still a lot of work to be done, but the game is coming together on all fronts. User testing continues and the feedback from the user research has been encouraging. After seeing how the elements are coming together, I’m confident we will launch an excellent game.
It should be noted that Alan Wake 2 is just one of the many projects that Remedy is currently working on, as there are four more in development. The first project is the Max Payne 1 and 2 remakes which will be developed by the company with help from Rockstar Games.
The other two projects are the Control sequels. The first one is codenamed Condor and will be a cooperative experience. The other is codenamed Heron, which is said to have a much bigger budget than the other sequel. Both of these sequels are currently only in the concept stage. Lastly, the final project that Remedy is working on is called “Vanguard,” which will be a free-to-play cooperative game developed with the help of Tencent Games.
