Remedy Entertainment has announced that it is developing and publishing a sequel to 505 Games Control 2, formerly known as Codename Heron. It is built on the Northlight Remedy engine and will be released for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox X|S series.
While we still need to get information about the upcoming spinoff, focusing on a sequel makes sense, given the performance of the original Control. The game has sold over 3 million copies since its release in 2019. This third-person action game has also received critical acclaim, including 20 Game of the Year awards. The franchise is already an enduring success, so it makes sense that Remedy and 505 are making a direct sequel first.
It was previously known that Remedy was working on several projects, one of them being Alan Wake 2, which was confirmed to still be in development a few weeks ago. Another project is a game that is set in the Control universe. It turns out that Project Heron mentioned earlier on the earnings call is Control 2, which is being developed by Remedy Entertainment and 505 Games.
The creators have only shared a teaser image and have yet to share details of the plot, game mechanics, or release date. The company also stated that the game is still in the concept stage and will have a budget of 51 Million USD.
The announcement also included comments from Rami and Rafi Galante, the CEOs of 505 Games. They stated that Control is the most important investment 505 Games has ever made and holds a special place in the company. They also thanked the players who have made Control a popular title and showed excitement for its upcoming sequel.
