The Guard has revealed their roster for 2023, adding Josh ‘JoshRT‘ Lee as a coach and Ian ‘tex’ Botsch as a player. Both Josh and tex were former players of NRG Esports.
The 2022 season for The Guard was really beneficial for them. They became fan-favorite among the Valorant community, stomping upon tough opponents with ease. The first stage of the Valorant Champions Tour: Master Reykjavik was a hard one for the Guard as they went down without winning a single series. The Guard made their comeback in the last-chance qualifiers and faced 100-Theives in the grand finals, resulting in a dramatic loss.
Despite being a thriving organization, the Guard wasn’t selected in the 2023 partnership program out of 30 other teams. Due to this reason, their coach Matthew ‘mCe’ Elmore, joined Cloud 9, and Ha ‘Sayaplayer’ Jeong-woo returned to his former team, T1.
Now that they have set up their roster, fans expect them to become the unbeaten team in the upcoming Challengers League: North America. They will face other new teams trying to take the spot in the upcoming Challengers Ascension, and winning it will ultimately confirm their spot in VCT Leagues in 2023.
