Resident Evil 4 Remake, the highly anticipated survival horror title from Capcom Studio, will release later this week on 24th March, and the developers are on the up when it comes to marketing the game. The game returns to the story of Leon, who is on a journey to save Ashley, the daughter of the US President, who was kidnapped by a mysterious cult based in a remote village in fictional Spain.
Resident Evil is renowned for being ridiculous and cheesy, and with the release of a strangely captivating anime parody trailer for the upcoming game, the franchise appears to be on point this time around as well.
The trailer, titled Resident Evil Masterpiece Theater, has been created by Nippon Animation and runs just under a minute. It portrays an adorable version of Leon S. Kennedy and the cult of Spanish villagers in the style of Studio Ghibli.
The trailer begins with the label Episode 1 – Leon and the Mysterious Village, implying that more trailers will follow. It depicts a relatively calm Leon, smiling and looking for Ashley in a native village in Spain, though he still has his gun drawn just to be cautious.
Leon wanders around looking for Ashley but in vain; after a while, he decides to ask the villagers if they have seen Ashley. The first person he approaches has menacing red eyes and is holding out a pitchfork; Leon is unable to understand what he says. He then decides to ask a lady, hoping for a response, but she, too, has menacing red eyes and garbles nonsense. Afterward, he runs into an old man holding an axe.
He now has a hunch that something about the villagers is strange and portends trouble, but he is soon surrounded by the mysterious villagers and struck on the head with an axe. A rainbow bleeds from his head, and the episode concludes with Leon running over the rainbow with a swarm of peculiar wolves, and the “YOU ARE DEAD” game over text pops up.
