At the beginning of Guild Wars 2, you can select from five diverse races to play. There are (Humans), who are well-known, (Charr) who are passionate and advanced, (Asura) who are magical and smart, (Salvari) who are innocent and curious, and (Norn) who are strong and love-seeking.
Humans
In-game Description
“Humans have lost their homeland, their security, and their former glory. Even their gods have withdrawn. And yet, the human spirit remains unshaken. These brave defenders of Kryta continue to fight with every ounce of their strength.”
Explanation
Humans in Guild Wars 2 have gone through many wars in Tyria. However, they have shared victories and defeats over the centuries, and they now consider Divinity’s Reach, a giant, and well-protected castle city as their capital. Humans deal with internal threats, ranging from facing bandit raids, and issues with their nobility. Humans are adaptable, they can play any class and master their skill. They are not as powerful as “Norm” but they are fast and can perform well in various roles. With different stories and backgrounds, humans are universal and quite an interesting race.
Charr

“The charr race was forged in the merciless crucible of war. It is all they know. War defines them, and their quest for dominion drives them ever onward. The weakling and the fool have no place among the charr. Victory is all that matters, and it must be achieved by any means and at any cost.”
Explanation
The Charr is a beast-like race, that used to fight humans. But now because of new dangers, they have an unstable alliance. Even tho Charr may not appear very smart, they understand traditional technology better than any other race in Tyria. Their capital is “Ascalon”, a city that has a strong industrial appearance.
Asura
In-Game Description
“These alchemagical inventors may be short in stature, but they’re intellectual giants. Among the asura, it’s not the strong who survive, but the clever. Other races believe they should rule by virtue of their power and strength, but they’re deluding themselves. In due time, all will serve the asura.”
Explanation
The Asura in Guild Wars 2 are clever experts in magical technologies. They craft living golems and make quick ways to travel the world through the Asura Gate. Mostly they lived underground but later moved to the surface a few centuries ago. They’re short, but they are very smart and skilled in magic. Their capital city is “Rata Sum”.
Sylvari
In-Game Description
“Sylvari are not born. They awaken beneath the Pale Tree with knowledge gleaned in their pre-life Dream. These noble beings travel, seeking adventure and pursuing quests. They struggle to balance curiosity with duty, eagerness with chivalry, and warfare with honor. Magic and mystery entwine to shape the future of this race that has so recently appeared.“
Explanation
Sylvari are plant-like people that are born from a unique tree called the Pale Tree. they look the same as humans but are made of veins and leaves, with plant-like hair and golden sap in their veins. These are the newest group in Tyria. They are very excited to learn new things. They grow up quickly, and they get their most knowledge from dreams in the Pale Trees. They are connected to nature, they have the idea of the danger from Zhaitan and his army. Their main city is known as “TheGrove”.
Norn
In-game Description
“This race of towering hunters experienced a great defeat when the Ice Dragon drove them from their glacial homeland. Nevertheless, they won’t let one lost battle – however punishing – dampen their enthusiasm for life and the hunt. They know that only the ultimate victor achieves legendary rewards.”
Explanation
The Norn Race is powerful and big. They value strength and are close to nature. Because they are powerful and have giant bodies, they may not be very fast. But they make it up with their strength. They don’t follow the traditional Gods, but they believe in the Wild Spirits. They belong to the icy mountains of Tyria and are masters at hunting. They can also turn into animal-like forms. They build their capital city recently known as “Hoelbrak”.
