In the zombie-apocalyptic world of Project Zomboid, a very occurring event is the power shutting down. This calls for a generator that powers all the connected resources with electricity. This machine is an essential tool because your survival depends upon your electricity use; without it, little is left to do.
How to Find Generators?
Since a generator is not a craftable item, the player must locate one and carry it to the base because it can not be put into the inventory. Carrying the generator renders the player vulnerable to the surrounding threats. He cannot fight if a zombie approaches, as drawing a weapon will automatically drop the generator. Carrying it also makes your moving speed slow as they weigh 40 kilograms, so this task demands patience from the player. The best option is to use a vehicle to transport it.
Generators can be found in garage stores, tool sheds, or nearby warehouses. These storage facilities are best located in Louisville, Muldraugh, and Riverside.
Best Location to Place Generators
Once the player has brought the generator to his base, it is time to decide on a location. For this, the player needs to keep three things in mind.
- First, generators have a 20-tile radius and two-floor (above and below) range.
- The second is that active generators exhibit fumes that can deteriorate heaths, so they must be placed outdoors.
- The third is that they must be placed on a rooftop because they make a loud noise and attract zombies, so put it on the rooftop.
How to Use a Generator?
Operating the generator requires the player to choose the electrician occupation. If the player has chosen any other profession, he can read the book “How to use generators” found all over the game’s map.
Now connect the generator by opening its menu and selecting the “Connect Generator” option. Before operating it, the generator must be fueled up and can hold up to 1.25 gas cans.
Where to Get Fuel for Generators?
Gas Stations are the most reliable fuel source, as every town has at least one gas station. The player can pump fuel into any can or bottle as long as the electricity in the city is running. Locating the gas station early in the game is recommended so a working vehicle can be secured to carry the generator.
How to Maintain and Repair Generators?
One notable thing is that a generator loses durability by one to two percent every day.. Once it reaches 20%, there is a high chance that the generator might explode or catch fire.
In an uncertain event, if you fail to maintain the generator, it can be repaired using Electronic Scraps. It can be obtained by dissembling various electronic devices.
The amount of durability restored when repaired depends on the player’s electrical skills. The higher skill means a high durability percentage is regained. The formula which determines the repairing durability is given below:
1 Electronic Scrap = 4% + (0.5 * Electrical Skill Level)% repaired
Generator Noise Range
The generator’s noise spreads out to a 10-tile radius and acts as an invitation to zombies. The players must keep it safe from their threat by dampening the sound by any means, like setting it up near a river or enclosing it in a room you will never use.
Generator Fuel Consumption
All devices placed in the 20-tile radius add a certain amount of load on the generator, depending upon its type.
In Project Zomboid, it is essential to keep track of the load you put on the generator to determine how many days the fuel can last. Therefore, here are some fuel consumption rates for reference:
- 0.002 L/Hr fuel consumption for each light
- 0.13L/Hr for every fridge
- 0.16L/Hr for every popsicle freezer
- 0.03L/Hr for television
