October was full of hit releases, with various games that were hyped for ages being launched. Earlier today, PlayStation revealed the most downloaded games for October for PS4 and PS5. The list is not all surprising, but a few notable names can be spotted on the charts.
Despite being released in the last days of the month, Sony has confirmed via a blog post that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was one of the most downloaded games on both Sony consoles. The chart published by Sony splits the most downloaded games between PS4 and PS5 and between the US/Canada and the EU. Despite this, Modern Warfare 2 topped all but one chart.
Despite the recently released MW2 topping the charts, the previous Call of Duty entries such as Black Ops 3, Black Ops Cold War, and the 2019 reboot of Modern Warfare are among the most downloaded games in the US and Canada. In the EU, the most downloaded PS4 game in October was FIFA 23, which was second or third in the other charts. This is probably due to FIFA 23 receiving a free World Cup update.
Another notable game on the list was Gotham Knights, which was surprising considering the game’s numerous performance issues. It was the second most downloaded PS5 title in the US and Canada and the third most downloaded in the EU. Grand Theft Auto V, Minecraft, The Sims 4, and NBA 2K23 were also present on the chart, despite the former three games being released years ago.
Overwatch 2 also was also on the list, dominating both Sony consoles. It wasn’t the only free-to-play game that was on the charts, as Fortnite also features in the top three. This is followed by Fall Guys, Rocket League, and Warzone in the top five.
Sony also gave us the charts for PSVR games, with NFL ProERA ’22 being the most downloaded PSVR game in the US, while Job Simulator took the top spot in the EU. Meanwhile Beat Saber, which is immensely popular, was second place in both regions.
