Square Enix has revealed that their 2021 JRPG, NEO The World Ends With You, is now available on Steam. The game was already on PC via the Epic Games Store since it launched, but now it’s finally been released on Steam.
NEO: The World Ends With You is a fantastic JRPG, but to fully appreciate the game, it is highly recommended that you play the first game in the series, which is the 2007 DS game “The World Ends With You.” The game finally received a sequel 14 years later.
The game follows the main protagonist, Rindo. The game takes place in Shibuya, where he witnesses a “psychic battle” in the middle of Scramble Crossing. This event leads to him discovering the “Reapers’ Game,” where Rindo realizes his life is at stake. The game’s rules dictate that players will die if they don’t win the game, so he and his friends fight against various other game participants so he can return home.
While NEO: TWEWY was critically acclaimed by fans, the game underperformed Square Enix‘s expectations; the poor sales figures were blamed on Square’s lack of marketing. Many fans were worried about the franchise’s future, and that’s why the news of a Steam release comes as a surprise.
NEO: The World Ends With You is available on PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4.
