The acclaimed Horizon franchise recently reported that it had sold 32.7 million units worldwide. Jan-Bart van Beek, the studio director and studio art and animation director, confirmed the sales milestone in a PlayStation Blog post. This news was announced on the occasion of the 20th birthday of the Guerrilla Games.
It was further revealed that this number only includes sold-through sales only. This means that the figure excludes PlayStation subscription services and other Sony offers. Apart from the genuine sales to customers, the number will bump more if we include those sales as well, so this sure is no small feat.
Furthermore, out of the 32.7 million units, 8.4 million copies of Horizon Forbidden West were sold, and this feat was only accomplished 14 months after the game was launched in February 2022. That being said, Horizon Forbidden West still has a long way to go, and sales will undoubtedly skyrocket if a PC port of the game is released in the near future.
Given the track record of Guerrilla Games, we could see a PC port any time now, similar to how Horizon Zero Dawn received a PC port a few years after it was released on PS4. In my opinion, the port version of Horizon Forbidden West will be released alongside the recently announced PS5 exclusive DLC Burning Shores, and if that happens, the game will undoubtedly outsell its predecessor Horizon Zero Dawn, which currently has 20 million sales.
