Nintendo has released a new Fire Emblem Engage trailer which details the Divine Dragon’s story and reveals new characters. The trailer features three minutes of rendered cutscenes; however, no actual gameplay is shown.
Fire Emblem Engage is the latest mainline entry in the Fire Emblem franchise and will launch next year. While it may not have as much hype as other upcoming Square Enix titles like Final Fantasy 16, which recently revealed its exclusivity date, it’s still got its fair share of excitement. The latest entry in the series will bring back several characters from previous games as summons, which will be able to help you in battle with the use of magical rings. The latest trailer also shows off Lucina, Ike, and Roy, all characters from previous games.
Lucina is a character from Awakening; the thirteenth installment in the franchise Awakening is one of the most critically acclaimed entries. Lucina is the protagonist’s child and has gone on to appear in other FE games, such as Heroes and Warriors. To keep the character as accurate to the source material as possible, she’s being voiced by Laura Baily, who voiced her in Awakening.
The other two characters we saw were Ike and Roy. Ike is the protagonist of Path of Radiance, who later returns to Radiant Dawn as the main character. Finally, the last character seen is Roy, the protagonist of The Blinding Blade, a sequel to Blazing Blade. He’s made appearances in Awakening and Heroes.
The trailer shows more of Alear, the game’s protagonist. They had been asleep for 1000 years and finally woke up at the start of the game. Like previous entries, you can choose Alear’s gender at the beginning of the game. In addition to the three characters in the trailer, we know that Marth, Celica, and Sigurd are also returning. However, at the end of the trailer, it’s revealed that the villains can also use magical rings. This means we may see the evil versions of previous characters from the franchise.
Fire Emblem Engage releases January 20th, 2023 for Nintendo Switch.
