Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon, is an optional Legend Boss in the world of Elden Ring. Legend Bosses are the ones that offer rare armaments, armor, magic, and other vital items. Although an optional boss, she must be defeated to achieve a specific game ending. This majestic and powerful being is the head of the Carian Royal Family and the former Governor of the Academy of Raya Lucaria, located in the lands of Liurnia. Red Wolf of Radagon is the first major boss in the Academy, who must be eliminated in order to progress towards Rennala.
Two of the four Shardbearers must be defeated before entering the Leyndell, Royal Capital, as the queen is a Shardbearer. Defeating her will transform her into a friendly NPC who can assist in reassigning stats to your character. Ranni the Witch (NPC) also participates in the battle with Queen Rennala, which has no bearing on her quest line. The image of Rennala in her prime, generated during the second phase, appears to be a spell Ranni left behind to keep intruders away from her now-fragile mother.
Where is Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon Located?
You can reach Rennala by taking the elevator to the Academy of Raya Lucaria from the closest Site of Grace, “Debate Parlor.” Vicious animals and knights heavily guard this dungeon at some points, which can easily be avoided.

- Summoning Lone Wolf Ashes will help you during phase 2 as they will continuously stumble over the queen while she’s attacking you.

- It is recommended to be at least Level 40 to battle against Rennala easily.
Rennala Attacks and Counters
This is a fearsome boss but not immortal. In this section, we will discuss the attacks of this boss and how to tackle them.
Phase 1
Light Explosion
She charges the light in her palm as she lies on the ground, releasing it in a restricted region around her before producing another bubble and floating back into the air. You can easily avoid this by moving backward as soon as you see her hand starting to glow.
Chandelier Drop
Small flame circles emerge on the floor before the boss drops a chandelier within them. It would help if you stayed away from those flames in the rotation.
Gravestones
She levitates a few Juvenile Scholars into the air and converts them into luminous gravestones before launching them toward the player. She uses this attack only after her shield is broken once. You must keep moving or cover behind a pillar to avoid this attack.
Headbutt (Juvenile Scholars)
Avoid standing very close to the scholars, as they can headbutt you with a severe amount of damage.
Flying Globe (Juvenile Scholars)
Scholars use levitating spells on globes and throw them toward the player. These projectiles are slow; you can easily see them coming and can roll away at the right moment.
Fire Breath (Juvenile Scholars)
Juvenile Scholars raise their candles and then blow a stream of fire onto the player. It would be best if you dodged to the side to avoid the flames.
Flying Books (Juvenile Scholars)
Scholars levitate the books and then throw them toward the player. It only deals a small amount of damage and can be avoided by running sideways.
Phase 2
Comet Azur
She shoots a beam from her staff after charging magic in it. It would be best if you charged toward her to avoid getting hit and circling at a 45-degree angle. This attack, if escaped, opens an opportunity to attack the boss because of its long recovery.
Star Shower
She summons Stars by swinging her staff, which targets the player by flying toward him. You should roll forward to avoid this attack.
Shattering Crystal
She summons a giant crystal in front of her, breaks it, and scatters the fragments across a wide area. Blocking it will protect you from the shards.
Glintstone Pebbles
A line of crystals is summoned and sent flying toward the player. To escape if you must roll through the crystals, or you can run to any side.
Glintstone Cometshard
She levitates forward and pulls her staff over her left shoulder. She then fires one big projectile toward the player. It can be easily Dodged by rolling forward.
Rennala’s Full Moon
She dispels your magic as it curls into the air and turns into a full moon. After pausing, she sends the moon flying in your direction before exploding it. You should escape its range and stay outside the ripples in the water to avoid damage inflicted by the explosion.
Twirling Toss
She throws her staff in front of her, where it briefly spins in position before coming back. Roll forward first and then left to avoid being hit as the staff resurfaces.
Summon Wolves
She summons four lone wolves by kneeling and then blasting the players out of her range. They can be called again and are only when below 60% health.
Summon Knight
She summons a Bloodhound Knight spirit which cannot be resummoned if killed and is only used when she is below 60% health.
Summon Dragon
She summons a dragon that cannot be used again if killed. It is also used only under 60% of health. You should run towards and underneath it to avoid damage. You must stay aware of its fire breath and keep dodging it until it disappears.
Summon Troll
She summons a troll spirit that cannot be used once killed. It makes a slamming attack as soon as it is spawned. It can only appear when health is below 60%. They vanish much faster, so you must avoid the queen’s attacks.
How To Beat Rennala Easily?
For Melee User
This combat phase requires the player to stay sharp and focus on the glowing Juvenile Scholars. Switching a weapon with a fast attack is recommended to inflict damage. As soon as you charge on them with a single attack, they’ll stop reinforcing Rennala’s bubble. Attacking 3 Juvenile Scholars will bring her down, so you must switch to your primary weapon and charge at her as much as you can. You must stay alert of her glow and escape her range if you start seeing it, or it’ll deal you massive damage. You should repeat this process until she is defeated.
For phase 2, she is sensitive to physical attacks and stumbles quite quickly, so it is recommended to keep attacking her with a lighter weapon. This aids in repeated attacks with low stamina consumption. Once your stamina gets low, retreat out of her range and regain your stamina before you decide to attack again. One thing you must take care of is her summons. Their attacks can cause significant damage, but dodging them is easy. Or what you can do is keep escaping them until they disappear. While escaping the summons, you must keep sight of the boss, as she’ll continue attacking with deadly hits.
Magic and Ranged Users
As we have established before, the boss has high negation towards magic, so you need a sorcery that mainly deals physical damage, just like the Rock Sling spell. Players can use Glintstone Pebble against the Juvenile Scholars. Incantation users must consider using Bestial Incantations to inflict physical damage as well.
It would help if you continued to distance yourself from the boss, making it much easier to escape her attacks. This will require you to be more alert than usual, as you must look for openings to retaliate with your spells. If she has a summon, you should avoid fighting with it but rather escape it until it disappears.
