With the new Apex Legends Final Fantasy 7 Takeover mid-season update, Apex Legends introduced 5 new hop-ups. These unique additions, inspired by the iconic Final Fantasy 7 game, are designed as materia and provide various enhancements to your weapons.
Table provided by Respawn Entertainment:
Blue Materia | HP Absorb | Damage enemies to heal yourself |
Green Materia | Lightning | Reload an empty weapon to emit a shock nova, damaging and slowing nearby enemies |
Purple Materia | Crit Rate Up | Random criticals provide extra damage |
Red Materia | Summon | Summon a Nessie companion to attack your foes |
Yellow Materia | Assess | Damage enemies to see their remaining health |
Here’s what you need to know about each one:
- Blue Materia (HP Absorb): This hop-up offers a vampiric effect — when you deal damage to enemies, it heals you, promoting more aggressive gameplay. It may enable you to outlast opponents in close quarters.
- Green Materia (Lightning): Reloading an empty weapon unleashes an electric nova that can damage and slow down enemies. This feature is particularly useful when facing opponents who charge straight at you, perhaps with the newly introduced Buster Sword melee weapon in mind.
- Purple Materia (Crit Rate Up): This augments your weapons with the chance of landing a critical hit. When this occurs, the shots inflict bonus damage, providing you with a tactical advantage in a firefight through the potential for increased damage output.
- Red Materia (Summon): Summon a Nessie companion to fight alongside you. The capabilities of this companion are currently under wraps, but it is anticipated to offer a strategic benefit in combat.
- Yellow Materia (Assess): Perfect for reconnaissance, inflicting damage with a Yellow Materia-enhanced weapon will disclose your target’s exact remaining health. This allows you and your squad to make well-informed decisions about whether to engage or withdraw.
To acquire these materia-based hop-ups in the game, keep an eye out for ground loot or seek out event-limited Cactuar Ticks, which contain these precious items.
Pro Tip: Look for Apex pack looking type machines scattered around the map, upon destroying it. It immediately drops all 5 materias. To find these machines take a close look at your radar:
What’s key to maximizing their benefits is to know which materia works with your selected weapons, as not every gun will accept every type of hop-up.
