Amazon Games are the video game publisher branch of the online retail store, and they have recently announced that they will be lending their full support to Crystal Dynamics to help them complete the next Tomb Raider game and will serve as the game’s publisher. After a long period of work under the umbrella of Square Enix, the developer was bought by the Embracer Group at the beginning of the year. But now it seems that Amazon Games will be taking over from Square Enix and will help complete the game.

We are excited to announce that we have partnered with @CrystalDynamics on the next major entry in the @TombRaider series, which will continue Lara Croft’s saga in a single-player, story-driven multiplatform adventure.

Crystal Dynamics is the developer behind the upcoming game, which still has no release date and is still in development. However, Amazon will be the publisher, and the company will work closely with Crystal Dynamics in creative support and be responsible for marketing, distribution, and promotion of the title to various retail and online platforms.

In April, it was revealed that the next Tomb Raider would be a single-player, narrative-driven adventure that continues the story of Lara Croft, meaning that this game will be a sequel to Shadow of the Tomb Raider. It’s also been revealed that Crystal Dynamics will use Unreal Engine 5 to bring its vision to life; this is a significant change from the previous titles in the series, which were developed using the company’s in-house Foundation Engine. There was no word on which platforms the game would come to.

After struggling to enter the challenging world of game development for years, it looks like Amazon finally got their big break as the new Tomb Raider title will be the company’s first narrative-driven single-player adventure. Christoph Hartmann, vice president of Amazon Games, said in an interview that this is a big moment for the company. He also said that he would have laughed if someone had told him that Amazon was creating games four years ago.
