Bandai Namco has announced that their open-world fantasy game, Elden Ring, is getting a multiplayer update that adds a new coliseum environment explicitly created for player-versus-player combat. This update will arrive for every platform the game is on.
From Software is known for releasing DLC for its titles, and Elden Ring is no different. It has become the company’s most successful title to date and is well on its way to winning several “Game of the Year” awards, plus players will finally get some additional content. Elden Ring’s official Twitter has announced that the game will get a free Colosseum Update on December 7th.
The game has three colosseums in Caelid, Limgrave, and Leyndell, all of which were in the game at launch but were inaccessible in regular gameplay. Although data miners managed to get a glimpse of what’s inside, some modders got it working back in April. Of course, PvP was impossible, but various combat sequences based on gladiatorial battles were discovered, including fights between warriors and giant lions. Multiple places of grace were also found in the area, suggesting that FromSoftware would allow people to travel to each Coliseum at some point.
Based on From Software’s trailer, the Elden Ring Colosseum update will bring both PvP and PvE modes. The trailer doesn’t go into what all of these new modes will be like, but it does clearly show both one-on-one battles, what appears to be two-on-one battles, and even three-on-three fights. The trailer description also mentions free-for-all.
The trailer opens by showing the player and two summoned allies in an open world, exploring and fighting together. However, it’s hard to say whether this means there will be anything new in this regard or if it’s just gameplay footage to tease viewers for the rest.
The Elden Ring Colosseum update will launch tomorrow for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
