The PS5 exclusivity of Final Fantasy XVI is paying off, as the game takes full advantage of the console’s hardware for better performance. The game features a special ‘Frame Rate’ mode that aims to deliver 60fps without compromising much graphics fidelity.
The Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida first revealed this Frame Rate mode at their PAX East 2023 event, where he mentioned that the game would feature two graphics modes. The first mode is the ‘Graphics’ mode, which will focus on delivering 30fps at 4K resolution. Then there is the ‘Frame Rate’ mode that aims for more fluent gameplay but with a lower resolution. The producer didn’t mention the exact screen resolution for the Frame Rate mode. However, it’ll possibly be 1440p or 1080p.
Naoki Yoshida also shed some light on the PS5 exclusively of Final Fantasy XVI through a save file demonstration where the game loaded instantly in about 3 seconds to present the gameplay. Yoshida also revealed more about the gameplay details by mentioning that the boss fight will be divided into multiple phases. Each phase is added with the Quick Time Events to maintain the intensity of the action by making it feel more dynamic. The game producer further mentioned that the QTEs have three types: Attack, Clash, and Evasion.
In response to a question, Yoshida discussed the size of the game’s environments, to which he responded that the game features small and large areas with unique map designs. Final Fantasy XVI also has a Hub area called the ‘Hideaway,’ which serves as a safe spot for players where they can return between adventures. Hideaway is a source for a blacksmith, an item shop, and the Arete Stone, allowing players to replay any stage they choose.
The game producer has indicated more revelations on the game will be made in April to reveal Final Fantasy XVI’s RPG elements. The release date is approaching, and fans are itching with curiosity to learn more about the game and what it has to offer.
