In Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you will encounter many bosses, but Mucktorok is one test of skill. He is a boss in the game faced by the savior of Hyrule when finishing the Water Temple and the quest, Sidon of the Zora.

This boss has a lot of patterns and attacks to look forward to, but they can be quickly dealt with if you follow the steps below.

Mucktorok Attack Patterns and Counters

The boss fight has two phases: In phase 1; the Mucktorok will cover itself in sludge and swim around the arena covered in sludge. The boss will have various attacks under his attacks, such as the Mud Slam or the Sludge Pipe. Here is the list of the attacks the boss does in the first phase.

Mud Slam

The shark slams itself on the ground, creating a sludge shockwave that sends in every direction. It can be dodged by jumping.

Mud Slam

Charged Attack

The shark will open its mouth and chase Link to bite him. Make a run for it when you see it charging, and you will have dodged the attack in no time.

Sludge Pipe

The shark creates a portal of the sludge coming out of the ground. You can dodge this attack easily as it is prolonged, and the window to avoid it is pretty big.

How to Defeat Mucktorok?

Phase 1

Roll or run out of these attacks and then attack the sludge-covered Mucktorok with Sidon’s attack to wash the sludge off, exposing the Mucktorok to be attacked. The player would need to rinse and repeat this process three times in order to reach the second phase. Another note is that the player is recommended not to use arrows in the first phase as they are beneficial in the second phase.

Phase 1

Phase 2

In this phase, the Mucktorok goes berserk and forms giant puddles of sludge all over the arena, which causes the player to get extremely slow and eventually get damaged. The Mucktorok will also have another move up in its arsenal; he now shoots a water gun-esque attack on Link, which causes sludge to pour over Link, causing damage. Run when the shark opens its mouth and shoots sludge at you.

"Zelda
Phase 2

In this phase, use Sidion’s attacks to remove the puddles of sludge and get to the shark, exposing the Mucktorok inside and attacking it. It is time to use the arrows you saved in Phase 1. Due to the low gravity mechanic of the Water Temple, Link can jump high. Use this mechanic to shoot slow-charged arrows at the shark if you cannot cover the distance because of the puddles. Rinse and repeat this process, and you shall find yourself with another heart container to add to your inventory!

It is recommended to have at least 8 to 9 heart containers in this boss fight. Have the upper hand in the battle most of the time, and rely on Sideon’s power, and this boss fight will be a piece of cake for you!

FAQs

Is Mucktorok a gimmick boss?

No, Mucktorok is not a gimmick boss. Though it has a dedicated design to defeat it specifically, it is not as easy as a gimmick boss, where you can abuse a given item to defeat the boss.

How many attack damage weapons are suggested against the boss?

For Mucktorok, use weapons with attack damage of 15 or more, and collect some Lights of Blessings to ease the boss fight with a large health pool and stamina bar.
