This weekend saw another issue with Warzone 2 as players reported that they could not play the game and were asked to purchase Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to continue playing the battle royale shooter.
Even though the two games sharing the same client launcher, players should be able to download and play the game without purchasing Modern Warfare 2. Despite this, the issue will still occur, meaning players who want to check out the content of the newly released Season 01 will have to wait for a fix.
The problem seems to be widespread, and in most cases, it will occur after players have played a few matches and tried to play more. After queueing up for a new match, a popup will show up that says, “Buy Modern Warfare 2 to access everything,” and the game won’t launch. This seems to happen in a few playlists, and restarting the game doesn’t help. The problems seem to have started shortly after Infinity Ward released a fix for the game that prevented players from partying with each other.
Players have been able to work around certain glitches in Warzone 2, such as the social feed not working, but that seems to be a hard block at the moment. While this may seem like a simple way for Activision to try and get more sales, the game won’t launch after rejecting the message, essentially locking out the player entirely. The issue has yet to appear on the game’s Trello Board, and since neither Raven Software nor Infinity Ward has addressed the problem, it’s unclear when it will be fixed.
Worst of all, players who took the advice and bought Modern Warfare 2, despite the two games being considered different experiences, report that even that didn’t fix the problem, so they spent $70 for no reason.
