CD Projekt Red has confirmed that The Witcher Remake is currently being developed. They also clarified that the remake would not be developed by them, but Instead, the task would be given to Fool’s Theory, a Polish studio. CD Projekt RED has confirmed that they will have full creative supervision of the project, despite it not being developed by themselves.
This seems like a big task, but CD Projekt RED promises fans it will deliver on its promise. Adam Badowski, who is the Head of the Studio at the company, stated the following:
The Witcher is where it all started for us, for CD PROJEKT RED. It was the first game we made, ever, and it was a big moment for us then. Going back to this place and remaking the game for the next generation of gamers to experience it feels just as big, if not bigger.
Adam Badowski
The remake was initially codenamed “Canis Majoris.” The company wanted to assure us that the game would be created with extreme care and faithful to the original, but they also stated that it would be a while before they could disclose more information about the remake.
Badowski later went on to assure fans that the remake was in good hands and that fans didn’t have to worry. Fool’s Theory has worked on previous Witcher games and knows the source material of the books quite well. Badowski stated that Fool’s Theory is a company that knows how to make ambitious games. The studio specializes in RPGs, and some of the senior staff have previously worked on Witcher games.
Lastly, the other thing confirmed is that the remake will be created using Unreal Engine 5. This means it will most likely be for the current consoles only. While there hasn’t been a confirmed release date, the remake is said to be early in development, so we may have to wait a while.
