CD Projekt Red has recently announced that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s next-gen update will arrive in December this year. The upgrade is part of the game’s upcoming “Complete Edition” version, which will only be released for PC and next-gen consoles.
The update was announced on the official Twitter account for the franchise, which confirmed the release date as December 14th. This lines up with the promise of a fourth-quarter release date which CD Projekt Red stated before.
Based on the books of the same name, the first game in the series was originally released in 2007 and is now getting a remake. The series had a small yet dedicated fanbase; however, it would be in 2015 when Wild Hunt was released, the third game in the franchise, which caused the series to explode. The game’s success propelled the franchise into the mainstream, leading to the third game being called one of the best RPGs of all time by fans.
As a result, it makes perfect sense to port the game to next-gen hardware. The game’s next-gen version has been described as a visually and technically enhanced upgrade to the base game. The upgrade will also include bonus DLC based on The Witcher Netflix series. While the bonus content isn’t all that interesting, it is at least more exciting than the content released during the series’ crossover with Lost Ark.
The upgrade was supposed to be released last year but was delayed twice. Saber Interactive, a third-party studio, initially handled the update’s development. However, CD Projekt Red took over development in April 2022 and ensured fans that the upgrade was being worked on. The release date of Q4 2022 was revealed in May, but fans were still skeptical given the nature of the previous two delays; it looks like CDPR has stuck to its promise.
The Witcher 3 next-gen update will be released on December 14th, 2022, for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
