CD Projekt Red has finally shared gameplay footage from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s next-gen version for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The live stream also revealed every upgrade coming to the 2015 next-gen RPG.
A few weeks ago, CD Projekt Red revealed the release date for the Witcher 3’s next-gen version. While the update was in development hell for the longest time, CDPR took over and will release the new version next month. During a recent live stream, a handful of developers outlined the improved visuals, all-new quests, cross-progression, and more to come when the update is released next month.
A big new feature on PC is the photo mode, which will allow players to take photos and share them; the studio also stated that there would be a photo mode contest later. For years, fans have wondered if the game would get a photo mode, and now it’s finally here. Also coming to PC is a new camera mode that moves the camera closer to Geralt. Players can mix and match camera settings for scouting, combat, and riding Roach.
The update also adds ray tracing, ambient occlusion on PC, and an “ultra-plus” setting that brings more detail to background characters and environmental elements. For PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, gamers can look forward to Performance and Quality modes, allowing gamers to choose whether to prioritize performance for higher frame rates or better visuals. Additionally, PS5 and Xbox Series X players will get ray tracing, ambient occlusion, and other graphics features. These won’t come to the less powerful S series, but it does have a choice of 30fps and 60fps options.
On PS5, the game will use the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, so players will feel the action when they slash enemies with a sword or perform magic. There will also be a new special mode where players can hold L2 and use the face buttons to cast signs instead of having to enter the radial menu each time.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s next-gen will launch on December 14th for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
