Developer Offworld Industries has revealed Starship Troopers Extermination, a new game based on the cult classic sci-fi film set in the same franchise. The game puts players into the role of the Deep Space Vanguard, an elite special forces group within the Mobile Infantry sent to deal with a particularly deadly outbreak of insects on Valaka.
Starship Troopers Extermination was recently announced by Sony Pictures Consumer Products and will be developed by Offworld Industries, the studio behind the beloved tactical first-person shooter Squad. The game’s announcement is timed to mark the 25th anniversary of the original film.
The game will be set on another planet, similar to The Callisto Protocol, which recently revealed a brand new area. The game will be a team-based shooter as 12 players form into teams of four and get to work collecting resources, building a base, building defenses, and eliminating every bug.
The game features three playable classes, which are Assault, Support, and Defense. All will be available from launch, and a progression system will allow you to gradually unlock new weapons, gear, and perks for each class. Each session will have escalating levels of danger as the bugs‘ powers increase as enemy Drone, Warrior, Gunner, Plasma Grenadier, and Tiger Elite bugs emerge to challenge your teams.
The map has five unique zones to wage war in, and several side objectives will allow teams to reclaim ground once completed. Lastly, like other arena shooters, there will be a ping system that players can use to call points of interest, objectives, incoming enemies, and more to their teammates. The game’s combination of first-person shooters and base-building elements is undoubtedly interesting. Still, it remains to be seen if this multiplayer game carries the same tone as the movie.
Starfield Troopers Extermination will launch in 2023 for PC via Steam’s Early Access Program.
