The annual “A New Year’s Letter” from the President for 2023 was released by Yosuke Matsuda, president of Square Enix. Except for the 20th-anniversary content, he mentioned that Square Enix would continue to invest in and explore NFTs and blockchain games.

In addition to asserting a commitment to NFTS and blockchain games, Yosuke Matsuda brought up the aim of creating an end-to-end global publishing company. Moreover, he also explained how they got rid of Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal, and Square Enix Montréal.

Yosuke Matsuda also said in his newsletter that most gamers don’t like NFTs, but he doesn’t care, which might trigger a controversy. He said some people play to have fun, which is certainly true, but he described them as inconsistent.

Square Enix is known for its games, such as Final Fantasy Series, Dragon Quest Series, Kingdom of Heart Series, and many others. It is now clear that the president wants to continue approaching NFTs, as in the 2022 new year’s letter, he said there would be story-focused NFTs.

He stated:

“Square Enix will keep a close eye on societal shifts in this space while listening to the many groups of users that populate it and ramp up our efforts to develop a business accordingly.”

It has also come to a notice that other major developers and publishers don’t want to invest much in NFTs, but Matsuda has made it clear that Square Enix will surely focus on NFTs and Blockchain games. His take on this matter is that designing viable token economies in their games will enable self-sustaining game growth.
