In 2021 Sega Sammy unveiled their Super Game Initiative, in which they planned to develop big-budget reboots of their various franchises in order to achieve global success. Later in April of the same year, Bloomberg revealed that SEGA is investing in its classic video game titles, with reboots for Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio in the works.
However, afterward, no major developments were observed until today. SEGA circulated a survey among specific fans today and asked people how familiar they are with some of the older SEGA franchises that haven’t been touched in recent years.
Here’s a look at the survey circulated among the gaming community:
This confirms that the Bloomberg report was correct, and SEGA is working on reviving a number of classic games from the past for future release. This also implies that we may see reboots of Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio in the coming years.
This is not a surprise given the track record of both Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio, as both titles were included in the Dreamcast Collection of Sega 2011. Furthermore, Crazy Taxi also had many spinoffs for mobile devices, including Crazy Taxi Tycoon 2017.
Aside from these two titles, other dormant franchises that may see major robots include Space Channel 5, Panzer Dragoon, Rez, Shinobi, Nights, Virtua Fighter, and Altered Beast.
