It has been two decades since Insomniac Games released the first game in the franchise back in 2002, spawning over 20 years of games featuring the titular duo. The franchise began it’s life as a PlayStation 2 exclusive and has since become one of the company’s most famous and recognizable exclusives.

On a PS Blog earlier today, Insomniac Games’ Senior Community Manager, Aaron Espinoza, explained the various plans they have in store for the franchise’s 20th anniversary:

Since its humble beginnings on the PS2 console, the franchise introduced us to a variety of beloved characters, a host of iconic weapons and gadgets, multitudes of eccentric alien worlds, and much more.

So, beginning today, we’re kicking off our celebrations – #Ratchet20 if you will, by dropping a few surprises and briefly looking back at the franchise.

The first exciting news given to fans was that the latest game in the franchise, Rift Apart, will receive a brand new 20th Anniversary Armor Pack today to celebrate the franchise’s 20 years. They also clarified that players will receive the content via an update to the game and that the update will be free. The armor pack includes five armors inspired by previous entries in the series. The complete list of armor is given below:

  • Commando Armor inspired by “Going Commando”
  • Holoflux Armor inspired by “A Crack in Time”
  • Quest Armor inspired by “Quest for Booty”
  • Marauder Armor inspired by Ratchet: Deadlocked
  • Clank armor to celebrate the greatest of pals

Also announced was the list of games that will be joining PS Plus Premium. These games were not listed in the PS Plus November 2022 list. A few games have been added already; they are as follows:

  • Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty (PS3)
  • Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time (PS3)
  • Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One (PS3)
  • Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault (PS3)
  • Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus (PS3)

Below is the list of games that will be added on November 15th:

  • Ratchet & Clank (PS3)
  • Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando (PS3)
  • Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal (PS3)
  • Ratchet & Clank: Deadlocked (PS3)
  • Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (PS3)

That’s about all the announcements that were made regarding the franchise’s 20th Anniversary. The rest of the blog post explained various key events from the franchise’s history, even featuring interviews with the game developers. Fans are more than happy with this anniversary, which shows that Insomniac truly cares about one of PlayStation’s most beloved and iconic franchises.
