In the recent Q1’23 earnings, Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav took the stage and discussed the company’s IP, which includes both films and games alike. He went on to discuss the growing popularity of gaming and how profitable the industry will become in the coming years and hinted at a new Superman game.
Zaslav talked about the billion-dollar success of Hogwarts Legacy to assert that the company’s IP could be blended across games in the future. However, he immediately mentioned the Superman franchise and discussed it in detail, implying that a Superman standalone game could be an option in the future.
He went on to refer the James Gunn’s upcoming Superman: Legacy film, set to release in 2025, and while Zaslav did not confirm the existence of the game, his comments suggest that Warner Bros. is exploring the idea of expanding the Superman universe beyond movies and into the realm of gaming. He said:
It may be in the next couple of years that we launch a Superman movie and…people spend more time and there’s more economics of people just hanging out in the Superman world and universe

The release of a new Superman game could be a strategic move by the company to broaden the superhero’s universe across various media platforms, such as films, television shows, and games. While the superhero has appeared in ensemble games like Injustice and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, it has been nearly two decades since Superman had his own standalone game.
There has been no official announcement of a new Superman game as of yet. However, based on Zaslav’s remarks, it appears that Warner Bros. is actively considering the possibility. In addition, given the recent success of superhero games like Spiderman and Batman: Arkham Asylum, Warner Bros. should definitely give Man of Steel a shot.
