NetherRealm and Warner Bros. Games have released an official trailer for Mortal Kombat 1, the latest installment in the long-running Mortal Kombat franchise. The upcoming game will be the twelfth installment in the franchise, featuring a reborn universe for the iconic fighting series.
The previous Mortal Combat iteration did set the stage for a series reboot, and now the trailer for the upcoming Mortal Combat 1 confirms that the game will be a complete series reboot set in a world created by the Fire God Liu Kang, with the genre-defining Story Mode featuring an immersive cinematic narrative. Ed Boon, Co-Creator of Mortal Kombat and Chief Creative Officer of NetherRealm Studios, said:
Mortal Kombat 1 marks a new beginning for the franchise and we couldn’t be more excited to share this original storyline and fresh take on classic characters with our fans.

The trailer is exceptional by all accounts, and as one would expect from a Mortal Combat game, it contains explicit carnage and brutal fighting visuals. Furthermore, the trailer also sees the return of reimagined versions of iconic characters, including Sub Zero, Kitana, Scorpion, Kung Lao, Mileena, Raiden, Kitana, Johnny Cage, Liu Kang, and Shang Tsung.
The upcoming title will introduce Kameo Fighters, who will be the newest addition to the Mortal Kombat series. These fighters will be distinct from the primary roaster and will assist you during fights. It has also been confirmed in an official FAQ that the online multiplayer will also utilize a rollback netcode for a smooth gameplay experience.
Mortal Combat 1 is set to be released on September 19th for all platforms, including PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Nintendo Switch. The game will be available in Standard, Premium, and Kollector’s Edition. The Premium Edition will grant the Kombat Pack including early access to six exclusive characters and 1,250 Dragon Krystals. The early access will begin on September 14th.
Whereas, the Kollector’s Edition will be available exclusively for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S and will include the Premium Edition as well as a 16.5-inch Liu Kang sculpture, a skin for the characters, and a total of 2,700 Dragon Krystals. However, it will only be available at selected retailers.
In addition, a beta version will also roll out in August for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. The best part is that pre-ordering any of the game editions will unlock the character Shang Tsun and also provide access to the beta version of the game.
