A brand new update for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 has been added to the PlayStation database; the upcoming 1.09 update will feature the game’s first season. The upcoming season includes a good amount of new content for players, such as various packs.
Twitter user “PlayStation Game Size” first spotted the new addition to the database earlier today. The update is noteworthy, as it adds support for Season 1 and also seems to lower the game’s total file size, at least on PlayStation platforms. While it’s unknown whether the update affects the game’s install size on other platforms, it seems likely.
Modern Warfare 2 has become the fastest-selling COD title on the PS Store to date, so it’s easy to see why fans are hyped for the new 1.09 patch, as the update seems to be the same one Activision and Infinity Ward talked about a few days ago.
Below are some of the new features that will be included in Season 1:
- The update will feature a brand new battle pass that emphasizes player choice. Players can progress through the pass while choosing map sectors to unlock free and premium items in whichever order they’re comfortable with. Infinity Ward detailed their plans for the battle pass a few days ago, in which they greatly valued the player’s agency and described their plans to give fans more freedom over how they want to play the game.
- Players will be receiving four brand-new weapons and six total operators. Two of the new weapons are free on the battle pass, while the rest can be purchased. As for the operators, players will be able to add three new soldiers to their roster once the update drops.
- A seasonal prestige system will include new challenges and rewards that players can earn once they clear the Military Ranks. The developers also stated that leveling up past 55 this year will allow them to acquire a prestige rank across all seasons rather than having it reset at the end of this season.
Season 1 will kick off next week on November 16th, the same day as Warzone 2.0 official launch. The update for MW2 will arrive on November 14th, while Warzone 2.0 can be preloaded the same day.
