The highly anticipated sequel to the Spider-Man game was first revealed back in September 2021 at a Sony PlayStation Showcase. The Spider-Man 2 teaser trailer got the fans excited, but Insomniac has been relatively quiet since then. This silence by the developers has fueled speculation among fans that the highly anticipated superhero action title will be delayed.
Later in April, Insomniac reassured that the game would be released as per schedule. They used an analogy to reassure fans that the title was on track.
We’re in the kitchen. It smells good in there, but we just ask for a little more patience.@insomniacgames
However, since a release date was not revealed, the doubts have begun to grow even further that the title will see a delay. Sony now appears to have felt the pressure and has hinted that the game will be released in 2023 as per schedule. Nonetheless, it is still reticent about revealing an exact release date.
Sony did not address this issue directly. Instead, it went over these critical details in the financial report for the previous fiscal year while discussing PlayStation 5 sales.
Furthermore, recent reveals from Spider-Man 2 voice actors indicate that the game is on track. Yuri Lowenthal, Peter Parker’s voice actor, confirmed that he is done with the motion capture and voice acting sessions of the game. Moreover, the screen legend Tony Todd, who plays Venom, has hinted that Spider-Man 2 will be released without delay in September of this year. However, he had to delete his tweets later on.
Despite the fact that it is nearly five months into the year and no official release date has been announced, both Sony and Insomniac have maintained that the game will be released this year. In my opinion, if Spider-Man 2 is not delayed, it will be announced at the PlayStation Showcase, which is expected to take place in May, and the title will hopefully be released in the fall.
