Devolver Digital has announced that the native next-gen console version of GRIS will be released next week on December 13, 2022. The game will now feature 4K resolution and run at 120 frames per second. While it’s not yet confirmed that the console upgrade will be free, the new trailer looks at the game’s new visuals.
Gris is an indie game created by Nomada Studio; the game’s central theme is grief, as the title tries to express emotion without a single word. Every frame in this game is a drawing and is a perfect blend of watercolor and illustration. Players cannot die in the game, so persistence and patience are constantly required to progress. The game delves into symbolism using environments, colors, obstacles, and more, leaving much of the game open to the player’s interpretation.
The indie title is all about its visuals, with simple gameplay interactions to help you from one scene to the next. What makes this 2D platformer so remarkable and captivating is its minimalistic visuals, using limited colors, hand-crafted animations, and breathtaking backdrops to great effect. It makes perfect sense why a 120fps 4K version would arrive on consoles, as next-gen upgrades can help enhance the game’s atmosphere, as is the case for Fallout 4.
The GRIS next-gen upgrade will launch on December 13th, 2022, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
