It’s been about a year since the release of the First Look Trailer for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the sequel to the critically acclaimed Final Fantasy VII Remake. Having been quiet for around 11 months, Square Enix took to the official Final Fantasy VII Twitter account and started a series of daily updates to reveal the progress on the development of the title.
The game producer for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Yoshinori Kitase, started off the series of daily updates by revealing that the development of the game was going on track smoothly and according to the plan. He further revealed that the developers were working to nail down a release date for the game.
The next reveal was by the game director Naoki Hamaguchi who teased what’s in store in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in terms of gameplay. Naoki revealed that the game would have a myriad of different stories and would offer a high degree of freedom to players as they journey across the in-game world.
Furthermore, it has been revealed that the game would follow a chain of narrative development that would be close to the heart of the Final Fantasy VII storyline. It was further confirmed that each character would have its own arc for players to uncover.
This raised the question of whether it was necessary to play the prequel in order to understand the in-game events, but the developers were one step ahead, revealing that changes had been made to the storyline and that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth would be a completely standalone experience.
Moreover, the game will offer co-op mode where different players join in on battles, and not only that, new music tracks have also been added to the game. Keiji Kawamori, the game’s music supervisor, revealed that they are working on new arrangements of tracks from Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
Tetsuya Nomura, the creative director, just concluded the seven-day series of daily updates today, stating that more information will be revealed soon.
This drip feed of information would have been for a purpose, and if one looks closely at the timing of the revelations, particularly the seventh one, it suggests that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth could be revealed at the Summer Game Fest. We can’t say for certain that more info and a trailer for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be shown at the Summer Game Fest, but all arrows point in that direction.
The Summer Game Fest 2023 showcase will take place later today at 12 pm PT/ 3 pm ET/ 8 pm BST/9 pm CET.
