Todd Howard, the current CEO of the company, has revealed that Starfield developer Bethesda is currently working on a new mobile game. However, it’s unclear which of its famous franchises it’s based on.
Since its creation in 1986, Bethesda has branched out to various platforms. The company has released for PCs up to the latest consoles, for whom they’re developing a free Fallout 4 upgrade. However, one platform they still need to explore properly is mobile phones, but it looks like that is changing soon.
On the latest episode of Lex Fridman’s podcast, the company’s executive producer and Starfield director Todd Howard revealed that the company, who have developed Elder Scrolls and Fallout in the past, is currently working on another mobile game. While discussing the conceptual differences between designing a console game and a mobile game, Howard made it clear that they’ve done a few things and have a new mobile game they’re working on that they have yet to announce. Todd also stated that he loves the unfinished mobile game.
The last time the company released a game for mobile was in 2015, with the release of Fallout Shelter. It is a building and management simulation game where players take over a Vault and expand it over time. Still, the developer hasn’t done much else on mobiles since then, so it’s easy to see why the company would be willing to develop another game for the platform. While Todd didn’t reveal anything else in terms of its genre, release date, etc., he did mention that the final product will be a more profound experience rather than a game meant to be played in short bursts.
He also stated that the company found that people will sit there for an hour or two in their games, especially Fallout Shelter. They will sit there and play it as many people will play it for hours a day. The studio hopes that the new game will be more enticing to players, so they can keep them engaged for longer.
